Official Newaygo County Record Contacts
Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office and Newaygo County Jail: Sheriff Bob Mendham and Undersheriff Chad Palmiter are listed at 1035 E James Street, PO Box 845, White Cloud, MI 49349. The main line is (231) 689-7303 and the fax is (231) 689-7273. Administrative hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The jail is open 24 hours, but that does not mean a records clerk or FOIA staff member is available around the clock. Call 911 for an emergency.
County Administration FOIA: Newaygo County Administration receives county public-record requests at 1087 E Newell Street, PO Box 885, White Cloud, MI 49349, phone (231) 689-7234, fax (231) 689-7205. Its official page provides the online submission route and fillable FOIA form. Sheriff-processed incident reports are typically available 5 to 10 business days after the report date and are listed at $10; FOIA costs vary with the type, number, and staff time involved. The research does not verify a separate booking-photo fee.
Start with the likely custodian. The Sheriff or jail may hold a county booking record, a city police department may hold the incident file, and the court, MDOC, federal system, or ICE may hold a different record. Michigan’s public-record framework is MCL 15.231 et seq.
- For a current county custody status or notifications, use the official Newaygo County VINE page. VINE is a status and notification route, not a photo archive or a verified county roster.
- For a booking record or photograph held by the county, describe the person, date, event, and requested record in a focused request through the County Administration FOIA route.
- For a sheriff incident report, use Sheriff administrative support or the county FOIA route, depending on the record and request.
- For a court case or disposition after booking, use the county’s official docket and public case information page to reach MiCOURT.
- For a state prisoner, parolee, or probationer record, search the Michigan Department of Corrections OTIS system. It is not a substitute for county-jail custody information.
- For a person in federal prison custody, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator. A federal hold can have a different custodian from the Newaygo County Jail.
- For immigration custody, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator, which covers ICE custody rather than a general Newaygo County booking search.
